All gifted testing is done for this school year.  Any forms turned in now will be first on the list for the first quarter testing in the fall of next school year. (2008-2009)

 

Parent Institute

On August 23rd at Landstown HS, a very special guest is coming to Virginia Beach to talk to parents of gifted children.  Dr. Sylvia Rimm is a well'known writer and clinical psychologist whose books on student achievement are now classics.  She has been a contributor to many television and radio shows and is also a frequent speaker, workshop facilitator and deynote presenter at the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) conferences. 

Breakout session topics include:     motivation                                                                              perfectionism                                                               twice-exceptional students                        organization/time management                                        social and emotional ajustment                                     stress management/test anxiety                                learning styles                                                         programs and scholarships for students

Registration forms are now being accepted for the August 23, 2008 Parent Institute at Landstown High School.  Parents have several registration options availible:
  • Registration forms will be sent home with students in the next few weeks.  This copy may be submitted through me to the appropriate office.
  • Parents can fax the registration form to the Office of Gifted Education, Attention: Sandra Gizzi. Fax number: 757-263-1424
  • Parents can download the registration form from the website, complete it, and send it as an attachment in an email to Williamll.Goff@VBSchools.com

Gifted Education in Virginia - AT RISK

There are new proposed regulations governing programs for gifted students in Virginia.  They are moving the services for gifted learners backwards insted of forwards. The proposed revisions can be found at the VA gifted organization site:  www.vagifted.org.  Click on legislation for additional information about these revisions.  After reading the proposd changes tot he regulations, please post your concerns and comments on the Town hall Website: http://townhall.virginia.gov/.  The public comment period is scheduled to open on June 9, 2008 and close on August 8, 2008.
